DIY Natural Egg Dyeing
I love the idea of natural dyes and have been seeing a lot of egg dyeing techniques using different vegetables, fruits and plants. I was inspired to try my hand at it to see how they'd turn out, and the results were beautiful!
Some food/color combos I've seen:
Red Cabbage: Blue
Red Onion: Purple
Parsley: Greenish Yellow
Red Onion: Sienna
Pomegranate Juice: Red
Being a fan of all things indigo, I went with red cabbage, which created a range of beautiful blue tones.
What you'll need:
1 head red cabbage
8 cups water
4 tbsp vinegar
4 tbsp salt
+ Hard boil eggs until cooked.
+ Boil red cabbage (chopped) in 8 cups of water for 30 minutes. Strain your dye solution.
+ Add 4 tbsp of vinegar and 4 tbsp of salt.
Once the boiled eggs and dye are at room temperature, your eggs are ready to swim! The different tones were achieved with different dye times. The lightest blue tone was left in the dye for 15 minutes, while the darkest tone was left overnight.
I think they turned out beautifully and I'm excited to have a try at some of the other food/color combos!
