Success! I can now say with confidence, we've got a solids-eating baby on our hands, people! It took her an entire week to get used to (and actually enjoy) ingesting something other than mama's milk—my patience was starting to wear thin with every turn of her head as I brought a spoonful to her mouth. But I'm here to tell you, stick with it, because there's nothing like that first bite she takes...then second, then third...this little girl's got me beaming with pride over here!
We started Margot off with avocado, which she actually took to right away. Then spinach. It was the introduction of meats that took some determination.
A couple of things that helped us:
+ A well-rested baby welcomes a spoonful of food...a tired—cranky—baby? Not so much.
+ If she still doesn't want the food after a couple of tries, don't force her to eat it. Just try again later!
+ Bae eats when mama eats. I don't know if she thinks she's eating the same food as us, but it seems to work!
+ Mix something she doesn't like with something she does. In our case: ground beef alone (yuck)...ground beef + avocado (yum).
+ Don't wait until she's super hungry. By that point, nothing but the boob will do.
And a couple of things that we use:
+ Oxo Baby Blocks: the perfect size, freezable and can be boiled (for when you need to thaw).
+ Oxo Sippy Cup: no spill, easy grasp for small hands, water flow controlled by sucking.
+ Munchkin Soft Tip Infant Spoons: soft and flexible.
+ 201 Organic Baby Purées: great info on anything and everything you need to know about feeding your baby organic solids with super easy and yummy recipes.
+ Oster Baby Nutrition Center: this thing is awesome—I use it for steaming and processing purposes, both of which you can do in one container, one after the other. Definitely a time-saver.
