Eliot Turns One

We strapped on the same party hats we wore for Margot’s first and celebrated Eliot turning one. Matt got donuts, Margot helped me make muffins and whipped cream, and we all watched Eliot eat his birthday treat. His birthday came out of nowhere—I felt like I’d just given birth yesterday and suddenly he’s 1! It makes sense that big events like this come around quicker for the second child. It just serves as a reminder to take these days slowly; fully savoring all of his baby goodness while it’s here. Happy first birthday to my sweet, baby boy!

Eliot at Ten Months

10 months. You’re playing games now. You scoot around on your bum, and when I call you to come back, you look back at me, smile, and forge on even quicker. You’re still very well-mannered, but don’t like to be left alone—we’ve set up the bouncer in front of the bathroom so you can sit there while I shower. We have conversations now—I’ll ask you a questions and you answer in varying tones…it’s the cutest. Oh and my favorite thing? You’ve proven to really love music, and dance the minute you hear your jam. You’re a lot like your mama and I’m loving it.

Eliot at Eight Months

8 months! Biggest difference from last month? You’re army crawling everywhere and almost pulling up to stand. You’re on the move and we’re officially in trouble. Nothing’s changed other than that…you’re still fully a mama’s boy and much prefer to be held. You’re also a little bit of a cry baby and don’t like to be left alone…but you’re my cry baby, so it’s ok.

Eliot at Seven Months

7 months. Your goo goo’s and ga ga’s are way more prominent these days. You’re easy going but super sensitive—you’ll cry when something’s taken away but super easy to console…the complaints don’t last long. You’re fully sitting on your own now, squiggle around while on your belly, but not quite on the move just yet. Next month, I think we’ll have a little bit of a crawler on our hands. Big step: you’re fully sleep trained! I waited to do it because I wanted to keep you in our bed a little longer—I would have kept you in our bed a whole year, really, but the nightly feedings were taking its toll. Training took only about 4 days, but we’re finally getting that full night’s rest we all need. You’re still all about me—you prefer to be carried close in the Ergo than strolled around. Despite the little bit of back ache I get from doing it, I love having you close. You’ll soon be too big to carry, and having watched Margot grow so quickly, I’m taking full advantage of your baby hood while I’ve got you like this.

Eliot at Six Months

6 months. Those chunky legs, that sweet smile and those 2 newly popped teeth. You're still very much a mama's boy—when you're being held by someone else, you're looking around to find me in the room to suction your gaze and make sure I'm still there. You're so close to sitting up on your own and getting so much stronger each day. I think you'll be a pro by next month—we'll see!
